How To Find The Right Book Coach

Do you wonder what a book coach is? Then first read my blog where I talk about whether a book coach is for you or not. In this article I will talk about how to find the book coach that suits you and your writing process best.

There are many ways to search for a book coach, but before I point you into the direction of one in particular, I want you to look at your writing journey so far and take notice of where you need help and where you don’t.

Ask Yourself

Here are some important questions for you to ask yourself when you want to look for a suitable book coach:

  • What genre do I write in?
  • What stage of writing do I struggle with the most?
  • Consider your budget: how much am I able or willing to invest in my writing life?
  • What is my writing time availability?
  • What type of coaching do I need: story foundation, drafting, revision, all of the above?
  • Is there a type of honest feedback that I prefer: a soft and kind approach, no-holds-barred approach, a middle ground?
  • What communication style do I prefer: just email, email and live coaching, only live coaching?
  • Are there parts of my life I want to have in common with my coach, such as illness, neurodivergence, motherhood, grief, success, environmental justic, religion, etc?

When you consider these questions it helps you match yourself with a coach that suits your personality and writing life best.
