“How To Write When You Have A Chronic Illness” at ProWritingAid’s Novel Camp

Past Events
WEBINAR
“How to Embrace Your Voice as a Queer Writer”
For queer writers, writing is often shaped by our complex relationship to visibility, rooted in our lived experiences of often feeling misunderstood, dismissed or unsafe. This can lead to self- censorship, over-editing and fluctuating confidence, which in turn affects our motivation to write.
In this webinar, I help queer writers recognise these patterns, access their voice when self-doubt creeps in, and build a flexible writing practice that does not rely on constant confidence.
FREE – 19 June, ProWritingAid

WORKSHOP
“How to Write Compelling Bisexual Characters”
Writing bisexual characters often comes with an unexpected pressure to ‘get it right,’ to avoid stereotypes and to represent an entire identity category responsibly. While well-intentioned, this can lead to cautious, flat characters who feel more like symbols of representations than fully realised people.
In this workshop, I will help writers move beyond that pressure and focus on writing bisexual characters as the complex, emotionally real individuals that we are.
FREE – 26 June, ProWritingAid

WORKSHOP
“How To Write An Authentic Disabled Character”
In this workshop you will learn how to create an authentically disabled character – a character with a chronic illness, disability or mental struggles – from a sense of deep integrity and the motivation to share the lived experience of millions, whether it’s the focus of your story or not. This workshop is for both writers who consider themselves disabled or chronically ill, and for writers who do not and want to learn how to create a character like this as authentically as possible.
